Circuit Training
Interval training at its best is offered with two different circuit formats for weeklong guests. Aerobic Circuit, still a Cal-a-Vie favorite, alternates cardiovascular and resistance exercises at each 50-60 second training station. The Cardio Circuit is focused entirely on aerobic conditioning alternating every 2-3 minutes and using a variety of cardiovascular machines and equipment. Both are done to either current upbeat music or classic and timeless “oldies.”
Dance
Basic dance movements with emphasis on rhythm and coordination make this both challenging and fun. The style of dance offered varies and may include: Latin, Country Line, Jazz, Belly Dancing, Hip Hop or “Broadway”
Outside Sports Skills
This class is taught on our tennis court offering another opportunity to appreciate this fabulous microclimate in Southern California. It is back to the basics that are reminiscent of your old “P.E.” days incorporating a variety of skills and drills that will challenge and condition you in ways you have not experienced in years. This class can be simple and fun or taken to the “boot camp” level.
Sports Conditioning
Here’s a class that hides how hard you are working with the variety of fun activities and the playful approach to the exercise. Interval in style, Sports Conditioning alternates aerobic movements that simulate training moves one might engage while mastering a specific sport or skill and free weight exercises. Different levels of intensity are continuously offered and demonstrated to allow guests of all ages and abilities to participate. Basketball, volleyball, tennis, fencing and skiing are some of the sports targeted. Weights, medicine balls and even hula-hoops round out this “be a kid again” total conditioning class
Yoga
Classic “Hatha” Yoga postures are performed and assisted. Each of the certified instructors works closely with the guests to assure proper body alignment and movement precision. Breathing techniques are introduced as well as mental and physical relaxation exercises. Primarily taught with a restorative yoga approach allowing the body to recover from all of the physical demands of the hikes and other fitness classes. Yoga offers an alternative method of increasing muscle strength and endurance, flexibility and balance. ("Flow" or “Power Yoga” are available upon request for the more experienced yoga student.)
