Preparing for Your Week

Cal-a-Vie offers a weeklong program that will be, for most, a departure from your normal routine. Even the most avid exerciser may find the program challenging. Although classes are designed to meet the needs and abilities of guests of all ages and fitness levels, the amount of exercising scheduled is substantially more than you are likely accustomed to doing. In order to benefit from participation in the program, we suggest you consider the following guidelines in preparation for your upcoming visit.

1. Start Exercising: If you are currently exercising on a regular basis, be sure you are varying the type of exercise you do throughout the week. This will give your body the ability to adapt more easily to the wide range of activities you will experience here. Reward your body with light stretches. The more days you exercise the better! Don't fret if you have not been exercising on a regular basis or at all. Try to get started with a walking program 2-3 days per week if you have time before you come. Otherwise, just plan to use your week here to "jump start" your personal fitness program but have realistic expectations for yourself.

2. Drink Plenty of Water: Most people do not drink enough water on a regular basis. While at Cal-a-Vie you will find it even more important to drink plenty of water. The increase in exercise, the spa treatments and the low sodium, high potassium diet requires ample water intake. Start increasing the amount of water you drink now. A formula for estimating your personal water intake is calculating half of your body weight in ounce. In other words, a person weighing 150 pounds should drink approximately 75 ounces daily.

3. See Your Doctor: If there are any medical conditions that might affect your participation in the program, if you are over 50 years of age, a smoker, diabetic, or have not been exercising on a regular basis, we advise you to see your physician for a check-up before you arrive. Be sure to bring any medication you take on a regular basis, including an "epinephrine kit".

4. Complete and Submit Your Guest Questionnaire: It is important that we have your completed "Guest Questionnaire" prior to your arrival. The more thorough you are with the information you provide the better we can serve you. It is our goal to make your stay a rewarding experience - to nurture and inspire you!
